The Netherlands won the UEFA Women's Championship in 2017, with Miedema scoring a brace in the final, having also scored in every other knockout round. Miedema's side were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the 2021 tournament and will be aiming to win only their second senior trophy this summer. She has expressed her delight at being trusted to head to the tournament after an injury-hit campaign.
WHAT MIEDEMA SAID
She wrote on Instagram: "Something about ‘bloed, zweet en tranen’ this time around. For a long time it was ‘normal’ to go to a big tournament with @oranjeleeuwinnen but this time around feels slightly different. lots of injuries, a missed tournament, setbacks and many comebacks later, I’m really really happy and proud to be part of the Euros squad. See you in Switzerland (I know there’s still a week to go).
