Jesse Lingard gets a rough ride from Manchester United supporters.
It is difficult to say with any real confidence that the attacker is good enough to play every match for a team chasing titles. However, his attitude and application can never be called into question.
The 24-year-old has struggled to secure starts in the Premier League this season, but he was named in Jose Mourinho’s XI for the EFL Cup clash with Swansea City on Tuesday night.
A strong performance saw the Red Devils advance courtesy of a 2-0 win, and it was Lingard that grabbed both goals in Wales.
Lingard will not need telling that he has to score more goals in the Premier League to be considered as a potential starter, but there are a number of occasions where the attacker has made an impact off the bench this season.
The England international, who is valued at £12m by transfermarkt.co.uk, does get a lot of stick from United supporters, but there were plenty that backed him following a tweet on Wednesday afternoon.
