Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana has admitted that he was shocked by his call-up to the England squad.
The Saints player, along with Raheem Sterling and Jake Livermore, were called up to Roy Hodgson’s contingent for the game against Ukraine on Tuesday and the St Mary’s Stadium man has confessed that he was wary that he was being pranked.
“I didn’t think the gaffer was being serious,” Lallana confessed to The Daily Mail.
“I was at home, about to head into the training ground. I must have asked if he was having me on a dozen times. I’m totally shocked, to be honest. To be called into the senior squad is probably the proudest moment of my career so far.
“It is every player’s dream. I’m realistic in accepting I might not be that heavily involved, but the fact I will be around such experienced players is something I am really excited about.
“It reflects really well on the club. It shows just how far Southampton have come,” Lallana commented.
Lallana will most likely start from the bench in the game at Wembley.
