Chelsea have confirmed that John Terry has been playing through pain, and suffered two cracked ribs against Benfica last week.
The England international defender picked up the injury in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Benfica at the Estadio da Luz, and has recently complained that breathing was a problem during matches.
The Stamford Bridge skipper played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa last weekend but was replaced on the hour mark in the reverse fixture against the Portuguese team.
With important league and European fixtures on the horizon Chelsea have admitted that Terry’s ailment will be assessed on a regular basis.
“Scans confirm that John has two cracked ribs sustained in last week’s game in Portugal,” a statement on the west London club’s official website reads.
“We have been able to manage it and will continue to do so.
“We will continue to monitor it on a daily basis and will assess him for upcoming games.”
Chelsea face Wigan at home this Saturday, before facing Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday.
