Anthony Martial has been left feeling upset after Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho left him out of the team for Saturday’s Premier League match against Stoke City, according to the Daily Mail.
The Frenchman, who joined the Red Devils from Monaco for £36m in 2015, was not included in the 18-man squad at Bet365 Stadium.
Martial’s season has been rather disjointed under Mourinho, but he looked as though he was returning to form when he scored successively in games against Middlesbrough and Reading at the start of the year.
The Daily Mail claims that the 21-year-old and his representatives are unhappy with Mourinho’s latest axe, particularly as no explanation was provided.
The publication adds that off-field issues (his marriage split) has contributed to Martial’s inconsistent form, while he was also said to be irked by the club’s decision to hand his number nine shirt to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Frenchman netted 17 goals in all competitions last season, and has recorded six in 20 appearances in the current campaign.
Martial has featured 13 times in the top flight, but four of them were appearances off the bench.
