Southampton’s social media team have worked wonders to boost morale amongst supporters after a tough start to the season with a blow directed at former manager Harry Redknapp.
The Englishman managed at St Mary’s after leaving fierce rivals Portsmouth in 2004, only to return to Fratton Park a year later after guiding Southampton down to the Championship, ending a 27-year spell in the top flight.
He left with a win rate of just 26.5%, taking full points in 13 of his 49 in charge, and Saints fans never forgave Redknapp for his move back along the south coast. At the time then chairman Rupert Lowe announced the former midfielder thought of Pompey as his “spiritual home”.
Those Southampton fans now get a chance to seek their long-awaited revenge on their former manager, who has been confirmed as a contestant on this year’s edition of ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here’, which starts on Sunday.
Undoubtedly supporters will be keen for Redknapp to be nominated for the bushtucker trials, and the club’s social media team also took the moment to joke at their ex-manager heading off to the jungle.
Here’s how the Saints fans reacted to the club’s crushing blow…
